| The Discovery Point ship museum, Dundee, Scotland Posted: 22 Sep 2011 02:00 AM PDT ![]() No visit to the highlands is really complete without a visit to Discovery Point in Dundee. Home to the ship on which undertook the first exploration of the world's last great undiscovered place, Discovery Point holds a special place in history. It was right here in Dundee that the Discovery was commissioned to be built, as most of the UK's whaling fleet was during those times. So it is only fitting that the Discovery now rests in this very place. A guided tour of the ship will take you through a fascinating journey that starts with her maiden voyage from Scotland to Antarctica, with Commander Robert Falcon Scott at the helm, and then through her long career on the high seas, until the day she came to rest at this very place. There's only one way to find out for yourself, what it must have been like to live in the ship, while it was trapped in ice for two years and survived to make it back in one piece. The museum is open all year round and includes hands on interactives, computer-based multimedia and a gift shop.
